This session features a group lead by Loulou Boislaville (b. 1919), a famous bandleader, composer, and dancer, as well as the well-known clarinetist Hurard Coppet (1908-1971). The style and sound of these performances are best summarized as urban popular dance music. Many of the recordings in this session can be found on Caribbean Voyage: The French Antilles (Rounder 1733) and Caribbean Voyage: Martinique (Rounder 1730).

Solo voice and orchestra. Polyphonic texture and improvisatory feel. Note the progression of different and/or recurring sections / strains ? at which point the melody is usually played on different instruments with corresponding changes in the overall sound / texture.
